UD Review: Brunch at Le Rivage in Ocean View Hotel

Sweet Olivia and I at Brunch at Ocean View Hotel JBR
Sweet Olivia and I at Brunch at Ocean View Hotel JBR

If you asked me what I did on a typical Friday afternoon, I’m not sure if I would have a definite answer. Many people spend their Fridays visiting family or having brunch with friends, or just lounging by the beach on a nice sunny day. Being single and living alone in this city, I would say that I put more effort into organizing going to concerts or parties with friends, attending art or community events, or just simply going out for a casual dinner, movie night or walk at the Marina promenade.

This Friday though, I got invited by friends to the brunch at Le Rivage Brasserie at the latest addition to the JBR walk hotel scene: JA Ocean View Hotel.

If you decide to head out there for brunch, I would strongly recommend that you sit outside. There’s a nice terrace area with a very chilled vibe. You will still be able to hear your all-time favorite hits being played by the live band inside. So don’t worry about missing out on that. My friends and I all agreed on the fact that the live band playing at the brunch was actually very good! It was so entertaining hearing them play every time we went indoors to fill up our plates from the extensive buffet.

The brunch has a wide range of International dishes to satisfy all your moods and preferences. It also features live cooking stations, which I must admit that my favorite was the eggs Benedict one 🙂 The sushi station offered a good selection of various sushi roll options – another favorite of mine.

One thing you don’t want to miss at this lively yet relaxed brunch is the wheat grass and Andalusian gazpacho shots. They were incredibly refreshing and we couldn’t help but go back to the buffet for more!

Of course, no brunch is ever complete without dessert. And this one will keep you wondering whether to stack up on fluffy freshly made waffles, divine date pudding cake, or just indulge in fresh fruit skewers dipped in chocolate syrup and pistachio or almond flakes!

What can I say…next time I get an invite to go to a brunch, I will not think twice about over-eating! It’s only a once a week affair, right? 🙂

V-Day with The Committee Dubai!

Some of you might remember the first meeting I had with this wonderful group of ladies. You can read all about it here if you missed that post.

This month, I had the honor to be invited to the group’s third networking event which was held at the newly opened and uber cool Cargo restaurant and lounge. The theme for the evening was a Valentine’s one, and we were all dressed in red to match the warm and lovely occasion. Despite not having a single red-colored outfit in my overly packed and cluttered wardrobe, and not having enough time to shop prior to the dinner, I managed to get my hands on a cute flower hair pin…I also put on my party-mode dark red lipstick and matched that with a “perfect red” shade of nail polish 🙂

Cargo is an Asian fusion place with a cool industrial-look modern interior. The restaurant is located at the third floor of the Pier 7 complex at Dubai Marina. This means that you get a panoramic view of the marina promenade and the surrounding area from the spacious terrace. What I liked about Cargo is its contemporary and eclectic edge. It’s not your typical Asian eatery; the place offers a super chilled and hip vibe…where you can enjoy tasty Asian fusion dishes while unwinding after a long day at work.

It’s also a great place to catch up with friends or go to for a romantic and casual dinner.

Just like our first event, The Committee Dubai members had a fun night out catching up and discussing all sorts of topics. The meetup also gave us the opportunity to network with professionals from media-related industries and bloggers.

I’m truly honored to be part of this group of dynamic, independent and intelligent women. The Committee Dubai is hosted by the lovely and sweet Anita Buys.

Signing off with some photos from our Valentine’s dinner at this Asian fusion hangout with a twist…

My Heavenly Valentine’s with Yoga Fest ME :)

Yoga Tent at Yoga Fest Dubai
Yoga Tent at Yoga Fest Dubai

My plan for the day involved working on my essay that’s due this Monday, then going for two yoga sessions at Dubai’s coolest outdoor yoga event: Yoga Fest, before going back home for more essay research. But after my visit to the event, I changed my original plan and decided to write this post instead of working on my University assignment, because I didn’t want people to miss out on this great event!

Yogafest is a free sustainable community event that takes place once a year in Dubai Internet City’s Ampitheater. The event brings together teachers and yoga enthusiasts in a peaceful outdoor setting. All while supporting charities and great causes.

The outdoor setting of the event was so peaceful and perfect for doing yoga, pilates or meditation. The DIC Ampitheater is located at the lake side, which means that you get to do yoga beside a lake with a nice fountain. While doing our Yin yoga, I could hear the sound of the birds chirping. That added more serenity to the already relaxing experience.

Throughout the event’s two days, you can attend classes for free at the different tents spread across the green patches of grass. Being able to lay on the grass is a great luxury for us here in the UAE, so me and my friend Olivia were happy just being in the great outdoors and breathing some fresh air.

All the classes at the event are free except for the Pilates and family tent classes. Those have limited space in them and are therefore not included in the day pass. You can find all the information about registration and the classes schedule on the web site.

I can’t even begin to describe how well-planned and organized this event was. And this comes as no surprise when you know that the founder of this great community initiative, Elaine Kelly is a fitness teacher with a strong corporate background.

Although the event only takes place once a year, there is a regular full moon yoga every month at the same location. It is also free of charge….the next one is on the 14th of March. So mark your calendars now!

But since my friend Olivia and I enjoyed our yoga sessions so much, I would suggest that you head out there tomorrow and not wait for next month. It’s the best way to spend your day or afternoon or evening and you will leave feeling energized and blessed.

Olivia’s friends who saw her after the yoga sessions told her that her skin was glowing. I felt more at peace with myself…more positive and thankful for my life. I even decided to write this review instead of postponing it to next week, because I wanted to share my experience with the readers before the festival ended.

So, if you could take some time out tomorrow to do one thing, let it be a visit to Yogafest 🙂

In the end, I want to wish all the single people out there a great Valentine’s…one in which they learn to love themselves more and appreciate the simple things that life gives us every day.

And remember to always embrace life and your present situation, whatever it is…even if you are tired of being alone. There are so  many things to discover and explore….endless experiences and moments of joy to share with others.

One of the things that I like about being single is being able to constantly learn new things and try out different experiences…so if I ever meet someone interesting and compatible, he must be up for full moon yoga at Yogafest’s tranquil outdoor tent 🙂

Social Post: My First Opinion Piece!

IMG_0847

As many of you know, I’m currently taking an undergraduate journalism course at University. Well, I still need to update my About Page with that piece of information.  It’s just that these days, with trying to juggle between attending classes, assignments, the blog, attending events, catching up with friends and doing mundane tasks like making a sandwich to take withe me to school and then spending a good amount of time washing up the dishes, the task of updating my “About Page” always gets pushed down to the bottom of my list – or should I say lists? I guess that’s another story for another post.

One of the subjects that I’m taking this term is: Politics, Journalism & Society. I’m truly enjoying the lecture discussions on various political and social topics. I believe I’m more into social and cultural issues than I am into political ones.

That’s why, for our first assignment for the unit, I chose to write about a topic relevant to my society and one that is always in the spot light of International media. I wrote about my personal opinion on the ban of driving for Saudi women and what I honestly think about it…and most importantly, why I don’t think it deserves all the media attention that it is given.

Let me present to you: My First Opinion Piece 🙂

Title: My View on the Ban on Saudi Women Driving and Why I think it’s Insignificant

By: Nada Al Ghowainim

Whenever I meet anyone for the first time and they find out that I’m from Saudi Arabia, I usually get asked one of two main questions. The most common question is related to the national dress worn by women in Saudi; the Abaya. People wonder and are even surprised at times at the fact that I don’t wear a head scarf or an “abaya”.

The other question that typically follows the “no-abaya” after-shock is mostly: “So, do you drive here?”

My response to the latter is an automatic reply that I sometimes prefer to keep to myself, primarily in fear of facing the other person’s greatly puzzled facial expression and having to go through a series of complicated explanations and justifications.

For someone who was born and raised in Saudi Arabia, driving a car has never been on the top of my “things that I need to fight for” list. That’s why, since moving to Dubai in the year 2010, I haven’t pursued getting a driver’s license or even had that task on my to-do list.

I must admit that relying on a personal driver or a male member of the family to take me from one location to another has its fair share of frustrations and agonies. However, those types of distresses pale greatly in comparison to other daily sufferings faced by all Saudi women.

More complex and deep political, social and cultural issues that women can’t escape from on a daily basis are in my opinion far more significant than the inability to drive a car. An example of those issues is the topic of women’s legal rights in the Kingdom. A Thomson Reuters Foundation report published in September stated that “Saudi Arabia tops the list of countries for laws that limit women’s economic potential, while South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa have made the least progress over the last 50 years in improving women’s economic opportunities.”

The laws in Saudi Arabia require women to seek formal permission from their male guardian – be it their father, brother, husband or even son – to study, work, travel or simply go from one place to another. However, there are more serious restrictions that pose a far greater impact on the quality of life than getting behind a wheel does.

Author Abdullah Al-Alami explains these daily struggles that Saudi women face: “There is a group of ultraconservatives here who will try to do anything and everything to prevent women from exercising their rights,” Al-Alami continues by saying: “Be it driving, going to school, working, travelling for that matter, receiving medical care. Many men that I know, we feel that it is crucial for us to support women who do this.”

More importantly, viewing the ban on driving as an extension to other major restrictions imposed on Saudi women will help divert the negative media attention on the topic; where it often makes it seem as the most significant issue facing the country or its citizens.

While a ban on driving does limit the freedom of women in the country, a number of rigid and age-old issues that deal with social, political and economic matters continue to confine both women and men in Saudi society.

Economic issues range from the increasing unemployment rates among Saudi youth, to the poor distribution of wealth and the growing rich-poor gap, to the inadequate infrastructure of even the biggest cities in the Kingdom.

Political and legal issues related to the “male guardian” system have far much greater impact on the lives of Saudi women than the trivial topic of driving a car does. The Washington Post’s foreign affairs blogger, Max Fisher clearly justifies this point in his article published in “The Washington Post” in October.

In comparison to other restrictions facing Saudi women, a ban on driving isn’t necessarily the biggest problem. Fisher elaborates that there are far more important issues restricting Saudi women in their daily lives.

According to Fisher: “It’s part of a larger system of customs and laws that make women heavily reliant on men for their basic, day-to-day survival.”

There’s limited attention given by local media on social issues faced by Saudi women which are directly linked to tradition and the social norms of the country and its people.

Examples of these topics include conventional social norms such as early marriage, arranged marriage, and other pressures that women face in Saudi society. In a society explicitly dominated by men, women can easily find themselves helpless and unable to fight for their simple rights. Women are closely scrutinized over their every move, and immediately judged if it doesn’t conform to the rules set by the society or its controlling male citizens.

In this confining society, simple freedoms that people all over the world take for granted, are non-existent. Having said that, how can one argue for a specific form of freedom when the general and broader restrictions haven’t been lifted? Shouldn’t we ask for more control over our personal freedoms and basic human rights before we ask to be merely in control of a vehicle?

No one enjoys having to be under someone else’s control, let alone a personal driver or a male member of the family, but I believe that there are far too many other causes that deserve our energy and attention besides the call for women driving.

UD Review: SRT Basic Course at Illuminations Dubai

IMG_1602

Introduction:

In keeping with the topic of this post and aiming to live at a lighter level, I will try to keep this post light, simple, short and sweet 🙂

I’ve always been a fan of spirituality and well-being, so I was delighted to hear about Illuminations from a friend who shared a competition from their Facebook Page with me. The competition was for a Basic SRT Workshop held at the center’s location in JLT. As if getting the chance to attend this insightful course wasn’t enough, I even got the opportunity to meet some lovely individuals who shared my life situations (past and present), experiences and obviously interests!

About Illuminations:

Illuminations is a well-being center which offers a great variety of holistic-based self-development workshops and seminars, meditation sessions, holistic training programs, private consultations and even a collection of holistic products.

They are located in JLT, Fortune Executive Towers, just outside the Dubai Marina Metro Station.

What is SRT?

SRT is a spiritual healing process that has its roots from the Spiritual Response Association in the US. SRT was founded by Robert E. Detzler.

What is SRT Used for?

SRT can be described as a fast and simple form of meditation. It gives similar results achieved by meditation, only in a much shorter span of time. So you end up feeling lighter, with more inner peace and clarity within a very short period of time.

By practicing SRT, you are clearing blocks to mental, emotional and physical healing. The benefits to using this spiritual healing practice are endless, and they cover almost all aspects of a person’s past, present and future life.

I personally believe that this type of therapy which gives immediate positive results is essential for our fast-paced lifestyles.

My Testimonial on the SRT Basic Course:

Since I plan to keep this a light post, let me share with you my honest opinion about the course:

“I was delighted to find out about Illuminations through a Facebook competition that a friend has shared with me. Even more so since the well-being center is located only a few minutes from where I live. The two and a half-day course added a great wealth of knowledge about a new form of spiritual healing that I wasn’t even aware of. The spiritual response therapy course is a shortcut to meditation and its results can be achieved almost immediately. In today’s fast-paced and modern lifestyle, SRT can give you fast and effective results in no time. The healing and clearing process takes place during the days of the course, even with beginners who have no previous experience with meditation or spiritual healing practices.

I was surprised yet pleased to find myself getting intense dreams at night after practicing the methods of SRT throughout the day of the course. Those dreams were directly related to the topics that I wished to resolve with my SRT practice. On the last day of the course, a friend from my building who saw me as I was heading out to the center greatly complimented me on how my face looked glowing. She could see a radical change in my complexion to the better. My emotional well-being has also drastically improved after only two days of taking the course. I found myself getting things done in a timely manner and was feeling more positive and upbeat overall.

Lastly, the course allowed me to meet great new people and make new friends including the instructor. It’s always lovely to meet a group of people who share your interests and life experiences, and possibly tribulations and struggles. My weekend spent taking the basic SRT course was one of the best weekends that I have had in Dubai. It’s one that I will always remember. I honestly look forward to the next workshop with Lukas Putz and to sharing lunch and good times in my area with a genuine and interesting group of people.”

UD Review: Elemis Facial

IMG_1682

Introduction

Since I’ve always had super sensitive skin, I almost never get a facial done! I prefer to stick to a basic cleaning and exfoliating routine. While using mostly pharmaceutical or dermatologist-tested skin products. Therefore, the Elemis facial was my first facial treatment in as long as I can remember!  I’m glad that I went for it though. Unlike my fears, my skin felt soft and supple after the treatment and there was no sign of irritation or sensitivity whatsoever 🙂

How long is the treatment?

The treatment starts with a skin consultation with the therapist. This takes around 15 minutes to complete. A skin analysis machine is used to check your skin’s type according to some variables. A printed report will show you the ratios of different skin elements such as spots, wrinkles, texture, pores, UV spots and porphyrins.

According to the analysis, the therapist will recommend a facial for your skin type, as well as the matching products from the Elemis range. All facials are priced at 120 AED regardless of the type. The therapist recommended the “Purify & Shine Fix” for my skin since I suffer from combination blemish-prone skin.

The facial treatment time is 30 minutes. Making the total time for the consultation and treatment at 45 minutes.

Elemis Skin Analysis Machine
Elemis Skin Analysis Machine

What products are used?

The therapist explained to me that Elemis skin products are designed for all skin types, apart from a few exceptions.

The therapist started the treatment by removing my eye make-up and then using a facial cleanser. This was followed by the use of a toner, an exfoliating product, a mask to purify the skin, an eye treatment gel, and lastly a moisturizing cream.

A soothing arms and shoulder massage adds to the relaxation element of the facial and completes the pampering experience.

Elemis Skin Products are Designed for All Skin Types
Elemis Skin Products are Designed for All Skin Types

Note: As most of you would agree, going to a facial is similar to going for a massage treatment. You do it in your own time, when you want to be pampered and take some time off to relax. Well, I made the mistake of booking my treatment on a day when I was also planning to visit an outdoor market in the area to take pictures for a photography University exercise. Since I wanted to be able to take pictures before the sun sets, I squeezed in the facial appointment that same afternoon. This resulted in a very stressed-out version of myself, who was trying to get through with the facial as early as possible so I could take some shots in the daylight.

The fact that the therapist at the Bloomingdale’s Elemis counter took her sweet time to do everything didn’t help much! However, I must say that I did manage to get to the market on time and I was able to snap some good pictures prior to sunset.

I just wanted to mention the fact that the therapist does her work in a very peaceful and relaxed manner. So the Elemis facial is a good option if you want to feel pampered and rejuvenated. It’s definitely not the destination for an express type of facial, where you go in and out of the treatment room at the same pace of a city lifestyle.

Elemis is where time slows down to make way for a more relaxed and blissful approach to life. Where the only thing that matters is you and your essential beauty needs.

UD Review: Yoga Ashram

IMG_1645

How I found out about Yoga Ashram:

It’s the beginning of a new year, we all want to eat more healthily and get in shape. But I personally never had that as a new year’s resolution myself! I think my resolutions mostly revolved about realizing goals of bringing in more independence and freedom into my personal life. This year was a bit different though…I had been spending one too many evenings writing blog posts, checking e-mails or working on the blog and my next plan (yes, more like what I’m doing now), and so this year’s resolution involved my decision to put my University degree first, exercising and taking care of my health second and lastly working on my blog.

How am I doing so far? well needless to say it’s 6:32 pm local time and I’m staying in this evening to write this blog post and check e-mails and other “professional network” messages!  But guess what, now I actually get to merge the fitness plan into my blogging routine. In other words, I get to do yoga and other fitness classes and review them on my blog! Good way to start the new year? I think so 🙂

How did I find out about this newly opened yoga place? As I was leaving the grocery store under  my building, for some unknown reason, I decide to check out the bulletin board for the first time ever! Yes, the Universe does work in mysterious ways. I spot the flyer for Yoga Ashram and immediately tell my yoga-lover friend Olivia about it. I told her that we should check it out one day. But before we got a chance to do that, I randomly meet a lovely lady and fitness instructor (who I will introduce in another post) and we speak about the new yoga place and later walking over to check it out together. Yes, all of these events happened by chance 🙂

IMG_1643

What types of yoga do they offer?

The center offers a variety of yoga classes; hatha yoga and vinyasa yoga to name a few. I got to take a “power yoga” class the other day. And I must honestly say that I was extremely satisfied with the way the class was given. Our instructor that evening, Munishwer is an experienced yoga trainer. He has several degrees in yogic science and study. What I liked mostly about his method of teaching was that he took the time to correct our postures throughout the one-hour class. He would also explain to us the right way that each yoga move is done. As well as talk us through the benefits that each specific posture has to our bodies and health.

Our Power Yoga Trainer, Munishwer
Our Power Yoga Trainer, Munishwer

“Yoga postures are designed to circulate the blood flow to the specific body organs.”

…That was one quote from our expert yoga trainer Munishwer. Munishwer gave us great insight about the many advantages of the various yoga postures to our health and different body organs. His words were also necessary to add even more value to the yoga session. As imaging the blood flowing through the body helps achieve the right results from the class.

Power Yoga Trainer at Yoga Ashram
Power Yoga Trainer at Yoga Ashram

How did I feel after the class?

Honestly I felt rejuvenated, more relaxed, and in an overall better mood. My body also felt more toned and my muscles (even neck and shoulder) stretched and worked out. The trainer even asked us about our personal outcomes from the session. While most students mentioned weight loss and toning, I just wanted to relieve some stress after a long week at University. So that class was the perfect ending to my hectic week.

The Space and Location:

You will be impressed by the spacious studio at this yoga center. The main studio where we had the class is so spacious and open. The walls are basically glass windows that have an outstanding view of the Emirates Golf course and the rest of JLT.

Located in Jumeirah Bay X3 Tower, this studio is just a hop away from where I live! Do I have an excuse for not exercising now? Hmm, very unlikely…

Note: Yoga Ashram offer other types of fitness classes as well. Such as Pilates, Belly Dance, and Moms & Tods Yoga!

I’ll leave you with some images from my “power yoga” class to get you inspired. Next week, I try out “Belly Dancing” so watch out for that 🙂

Motivational Evening at Katsuya Dubai Mall: Media in the Making

Media in the Making Event
Media in the Making Event

I was delighted and honored to be invited to a social event hosted by the lovely Anita Buys at the newly opened Katsuya restaurant in Dubai Mall. The dinner event brought together 15 career-driven women from alternative areas and saw us conversing over many interesting and media-relevant topics. I must say that my favorite topic of discussion that evening was the one involving comparison between journalists and bloggers. Being a blogger and journalism student myself, I constantly face the dilemma of choosing between being a full-time blogger or journalist. As I’m still unsure which one of those career paths will open more doors for me. Listening to views from more experienced media professionals and bloggers definitely helped give me an extra insight into both worlds.

Anita and I would love to meet more inspirational women from the media industry and hear more success stories in Anita’s future events. So if you work in PR/events/print media/online media/blogging or any other relevant industry and would like to join us in the next Media in the Making event, please contact Anita on her e-mail address:

Prior to this amazing evening at Katsuya Dubai Mall, I have been to this Japanese dining hub with my American friend from LA. My friend who is a big fan of Katsuya and has been to many of their U.S. branches, has been waiting impatiently for the Dubai Mall branch to open. So once I found out that it was officially open, we went there for lunch on their first official opening day. I’ll be writing a review on that great lunch that I had with my friend Nia on that first opening day soon. So stay tuned for that.

In the end, I would like to thank the lovely and dynamic Anita Buys for organizing and hosting this event. Special thanks to the friendly and welcoming team at Katsuya Dubai Mall for their warm and generous hospitality that evening.

Signing off with a note to say that all dreams are achievable and that everything is possible with a little bit of determination, hard work and optimism.  Add to that: a lot of patience 🙂

What materials do you use in your card creations?   My choice for the materials is usually spontaneous. Sometimes I would use a paint brush with loads of water dripping. Other works might involve the use of different materials such as a toothbrush, my hands, sponge, and other various materials.

The cards are vertically painted on a canvas at first, then the details are added horizontally.

Where do you get your inspiration from?    People, stories, personal experiences, thoughts, my life. My paintings are not just random. All cards have meaning, soul, depth, and they represent a part of my life.

In a few words, how would you describe your artistic style?   It’s just me. Sometimes it can be described as feminine or colorful. And at other times it can be labelled as dark. My sense of style can be described as impulsive…it’s a blend of different styles. Since it all comes from the heart, my pieces are not planned.

How long does it take you to create one card?   From 10 minutes to one hour.

Do you customize the cards for individuals?    The cards can be personalized for various occasions such as weddings, and anniversaries.

What is your aim behind creating and selling them?   I love giving people the pleasure of receiving a unique and original card that is affordable.  People need to see the card as a piece of art, rather than just a greeting card.

Who is your target market?   People who appreciate art and see the value in it. Art lovers basically…people who understand that with a card you can buy a gift.  As opposed to just attaching a card to your gift, the card becomes a gift in itself.

How much do the cards cost?   For 20 pounds – 100 AED, they can own a unique card that no one else will have. Since each card is an original creation of art.  The prices for the cards range from 50 AED and above.

How can people contact you to purchase or order cards?
People can reach me by e-mail. A web site will be available shortly.

Dubai Restaurant Review: Marta’s Workshop

IMG_1458

I’ve been checking out quite a few new eateries in Dubai in the past couple of weeks. Since I adore change and get bored pretty easily, I find it always good fun to try fresh dining concepts and catch up with friends over a nice meal. My most recent review was of Mo’s – a new casual American dining spot in Jumeirah’s pristine cozy Citywalk Mall. You can read that short review here.

Today’s review is about another intimate space in my side of JLT!

Since my area doesn’t have that many eating outlets, I was so excited when I read a review from a food blogger – The REAL Geordie Armani – on a place that’s located just across the lake from where I live 🙂

Once I saw the review, I made an instant decision to have lunch at Marta’s Workshop the next day. Yes, that’s how desperate I am for a simple solution for my daily lunch dilemma :p

Now for the sake of keeping this review short, since it’s past 1 am (I made a commitment with myself to blog daily this week), I will get straight to the point and tell you what I had for lunch.

I was offered a complimentary shot of gazpacho upon arrival….I opted for the fresh juice and meal option. Which costs AED 60.

My watermelon juice was so refreshing and sitting out on a terrace in December in Dubai only made the experience better.

Meal Options at Marta's Workshop

There were three options for the main course to choose from. I went with Renier’s (Marta’s head chef) suggestion for a tapas selection plate. The dish had crab cocktail bites, a bowl of sweet and sour shrimp and two “beef surprises”.

What was special about those shrimps – as the chef explained to me – was the fact that they were cooked in a sousvied machine in water for 25 minutes only. As opposed to being sauteed or wok-fried in a pan.

My beef surprises were healthily baked in the oven for 10 minutes, after being stuffed with some leek, carrots and beef tenderloin.

My Personal Opinion:

Marta’s Kitchen started out as a food catering concept and has just recently opened its doors for the people working and living in the surrounding area…It was my first time to try Marta’s creations, although I’m sure that I’ve heard of her many times before.

Honestly speaking, the tapas tasted a lot like home-made food – a rare commodity in the city. So that element scored great points for me. The space has a very homely feel to it, the ambiance is so relaxed and the setting is so warm and welcoming.

On the other hand, the portions served in my “meal” were too small for someone who is looking to have lunch and not just a light snack on the go.

Now I’m sure that Marta has a good explanation for the size of portions in that tapas plate, or maybe it was only the tapas that was served in bite-size nibbles. I mean, luckily on that day, I wasn’t feeling too hungry. Because if I were, then that meal wouldn’t have been sufficient. I’m also not sure what kind of clients Marta is aiming to target with her newly opened eatery, as the portion size may not be an issue for certain expats. I can only speak for myself – a Saudi lifestyle blogger with a hearty appetite! I think I can also speak for the wider GCC community as I stated in my Top 10 List Post about the Gulf Region how we tend to eat big meals for lunch AND dinner….If you missed that post, you can read all about it here.

I’m sure that Marta can also justify the prices that she set for each meal option.

I might check out Marta’s Workshop on another day to try out a different meal option and measure the portion size in relevance to my ever-expanding appetite 🙂
